Kapas Island

Pulau Kapas View - 1 The magic of Terengganu begins the moment you drive to  Pulau Kapas with its pretty picture postcard fishing village scenery.  This atmosphere of peace and tranquillity is heightened as you proceed along the exquisite shores passing through beach.  Far out in the waters of the South China Sea, the beautiful islands glint like jewels in the clear afternoon sun. People go about their daily chores with apparent ease, at their own unhurried pace - turning out beautiful pieces of handicraft.  A living testimony to the centuries old cultural heritage of Terengganu.

Marang is among one of the take off point for Kapas Island, about half an hour away by boat.   The waters around the island is home to an infinite variety of corals, seashells, fish and turtles.  On land, there are the famous 'Murai Batu' - a song bird which has the enviable reputation of having 23 different melodies at its command.

The relative isolation of its beautifully spotless beaches, the relaxing laid back atmosphere where life proceeds at your own individual pace, makes this another favourite retreat of swaying palms and casuarinas whispering in the wind where one can spend happy hours of swimming and snorkelling.

How To Get There

It is accessible by a 1/2 hour's boat ride from Marang.  The fare is RM15.00 per person (return). It costs approximately RM180.00 to hire a boat. The Pantai Primula Hotel at Kuala Terengganu also organizes tour packages for day excursions and fishing trips to Kapas Island.

How to get there

Visitors may park their cars at the jetty area in Marang.  No fee is levied. Kuala Terengganu has many splendid beaches to boast of Chendering, Batu Buruk, Pantai Air Tawar, Kelulut, Marina and Teluk Dalam. Of these, two notable ones are Chendering and Pantai Batu Buruk.

Chendering is a hauntingly beautiful beach of tall coconut palms and fine white sand which inspired the composition of an equally beautiful song singing praises of its captivating charms.

Pantai Batu Buruk is located within the town of Kuala Terengganu and is a lovely stretch of golden sandy beach amidst a casuarina wooden grove, perfect for strolling and swimming.

A resort hotel located along this stretch provides facilities for a host of leisure activities such as snorkelling, water skiing and windsurfing.  There are also facilities for canoeing and boating.

If you get tired of swimming, join organized tours to the beautiful offshore islands.  Snorkelling in the warm, crystal clear waters of the seas around the islands, going after the fishes that dart among the colourful coral gardens, is an experience you would not easily forget.
